Make more money through Adsense Conversion

Adsense Formula

Adsense Conversion otherwise known in Google terms as CTR is the rate of impressions by the rate of clicks. A hypothetical example:
12 Clicks / 3430 Impressions = 0.35 CTR

Thankfully Google has already done the calculations for you which are displayed when you first log into your Adsense homepage.

Now as Adsense publishers, this is a significant key area you will need to aim to increase your earnings. As it against TOS it’s against Google policy to disclose your CTR, so I’m purely going to use hypothetical examples.

Conversion Rates can have many different outcomes; some of the main influences can be the types of ads that are being served:

Relevant Branded Ads
These are the type of keywords that are unique to your brand name.
For instance: Porsche’s 911 GT3 Turbo
Ads that will appear that contain “Porsche 911 Turbo” will generally have a good conversion rate.

Competitor Advertisers
Competitions can compete for your keywords, this means that you can have a website about Luxurious Porsche’s but ads from your local competitor will be replaced with Mercedes Advertisements.

Information Advertisements
These are the keywords that will describe your product. When your selling BMW rims and ads appear providing information, the conversion rate will depend on the users knowledge of that product.

Associated Ads
You’ve got a page dedicated to buying mustangs, but your inventory is filled with ads about Rally Driving Courses, then your conversion rate will be affected by these related ads.

You could experiment with your site by removing Ads via your adjusting your Competitive Ad Filter. By experimenting with the different range of ads, you may be able to increase your CTR.
Another known method is to block out MFA (Made for Adsense Sites), these sites are generally filled with Adsense and are generally vague and brief on their chosen topic.
Ads blacklist is a tool you can use to block out common ads based on your keywords.

Other areas that affect your Conversion Rate is how your ads appear. Different sites will work with alternative combination’s and that’s where you’ll need to experiment with different positions and sizes and color. Eventually with experimentation you’ll find a formula that will increase your CTR,
Google has provided a hotspot map as a guide to help webmasters.

Having Adsense the focus point of your website is used commonly by MFA (made for Adsense websites), The key format is that when a user enters a website they will see nothing but your Adsense.
Below is an example of this formula.

In the long run, this style of page will lose traffic as users will be less inclined to link to towards this style. . Therefore your traffic statistics will gradually decrease. Adsense publishers need to find a balance that will generate an acceptable Conversion ratio but will not deter users from revisiting.

What is a good CTR then?
I cannot answer this for you and this really depends on what you require. Do you require a website purely to make money based on High Traffic Keywords and targeted niches? Perhaps a website to help pay for server bills and your time and you’re not concerned about earnings. Or earnings is an issue but you don’t want to inhibit future users? Each Answer to these questions will be different based on your needs.

To help I’ve created a formula of a conversion rate that which is reflective from publishers thoughts.

0- 1% - Most common rate, the ads are clicked very little. Some tweaking may be needed. Forums generally have this figure with the leaderboard banners and leaderboard’s in the first post.
1- 2.5% - If you’ve got a non intrusive website than this is a good figure to have that should generate good earnings with the right traffic and keywords.
2.5 – 5% - Your Conversion Rate is good and with high traffic, earnings should be substantial.
5% - 7.5% - An exceptional conversion rate, however are your ads intrusive? If not than you’ll be making thousands if you’ve got the traffic and the keyword worth.
+7.5% - I’d be concerned about figures above this if you’re site isn’t MFA, you could be a victim of click fraud. Otherwise congratulations, millions of publishers are envious.
